In January alone, dozen cases of rape and molestation on foreign women tourists have been recorded. This has tarnished the image of India as a safe tourist place for foreigners.
No doubt, such reports certainly show a negative effect on economy brought by tourism.
Various reasons can be attributed to such assaults on foreigners.
First may be the dress worn by foreigners. In a temple city like kanchi, one is not expected to wear such skimpy dresses. Their style of living, their dressing pattern may trigger men's basic instincts.
Another reason can be a sense of anonymity felt by people, who commit such crimes. such criminals may feel that the victim could not identify them as they would be in a hurry to go back to their mother countries. No woman, in any country, could dare to lodge such complaints with the police either because of fear or lack of belief in police.
But there are many ways and solutions that government could do to prevent such crimes.
Firstly, the government should set up as many police stations as possible in those places where tourist inflow is high. Ofcourse, limited police staff couldnot take care of all the cases. In that case, volunteers, retired police officials, ex-service men should be given a chance to head police stations and to cater to the tourists needs at tourist places. This measure serves two purposes as it provides employment to retired people and at the same time they can help foreigners.
By doing so, one can bring back the lost prestige of our country and it also imbibe trust in foreigners.
